Press Release

Ministry of Defence (through “MEICO”) starting from 2013 has adopted the position that all its activity relative to the export of arm and munition stockpiles inherited from the end of the cold war, is to be effectuated only with “end user” states that are NATO Member States.

This activity is conform with the international legislation, the obligations that Albania has as a NATO member state, as well as various commitments, agreements and treaties ratified by our country.

The process is more than transparent and it is monitored by several international organizations.

Regarding the news in today's newspapers for the sale of arms we would like to inform you that:

The State Export Control Authority gives the necessary licence for arms and munition export based only on state guarantees by the importing country. Also any foreign or Albanian company involved in arms transfer is verified by the Intelligence Services and other structures having the information.

Regarding "Alguns Ltd" association, there is an exchange of information even with the Bulgarian Government, expressing that the company owns the relevant licenses for this type of activity and has passed the security checks. Bulgaria is an UN and NATO Member State, and has an established export control system.

The information on exports and imports of weapons is prepared annually by ESCA and is accessible to the public on the webpage:
