Press Release

Press Statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces

The General Staff of the Armed Forces expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Arben Dosku, who lost his life today, and Lavdrim and Alfred Dosku, who were wounded in the village of Zgarë, Librazhd. The Armed Forces have done and will continue to do everything possible to avoid incidents of this kind causing the loss of human lives or damage to people, but we note with concern that too little is done by local government.

The Armed Forces through protection, patrolling, surveillance, placement of necessary signs, awareness campaigns and in cooperation with local government make maximum efforts to avoid these incidents. Despite these measures, we inform that it is impossible the physical and continuous control of these remote areas that once served as demolition ranges. The General Staff of the Armed Forces assures the public that there is no demolition process underway in this area, since it was concluded in September 2012, however, cautiousness must be continuous.

Clarification of the Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence informs the public opinion that the article published today by the newspaper “Panorama”, according to which the “Ministry of Defence has prepared the draft on chemical weapons, later not approved by the government after the “No” of Prime Minister Rama”, is not true. The Ministry of Defence clarifies the public opinion that the draft decision no. 997, dated 10.12.2010 of the Council of Ministers “On the financial treatment of employees sent to work outside the centre of service, within the country”, amended, does not mention the preparation for the arrival of chemical weapons in Albania.
