Military Intelligence Service (MIS)

Read more...Military Intelligence Service (MIS) is an inseparable part of the Albanian state and is a specific entity, an intelligence organization frame worked as an agency of security of defence. MIS was established officially on 11 December 1991, by the order Nr. 7530 Dated 11.12.1991 “On the organization of the Military Intelligence Service” under the subordination of the Ministry of Defence.

MIS is a consolidated agency that operates in the field of defence as an active part of the Armed Forces. It has supported and supports the AF in missions on the framework of NATO, EU and UNO outside of Albania, as in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chad and Kosovo.

MIS is member of the NATO’s board of intelligence and the Work Groups of Intelligence, Counterintelligence and Security. It has regular coordinating relations with all intelligence agencies of NATO, as well as bilateral and multilateral relations with a considerable number of intelligence services of the region and beyond.

Its further reformation philosophy to the same standards and performance of the intelligence services of NATO countries aims the following objectives:

  • New way of work conception of intelligence in conformity with the symmetric and asymmetric threats.
  • Fulfilment of the quantity and quality standards of the product of intelligence.
  • Support with intelligence product the Authorities of Leadership and Strategic Commanding.
  • Recruitment of military and civilian qualitative personnel that meet the criteria and qualities that requires MIS.

It is worth mentioning the everyday dedication of all the employees in the history of MIS that have made possible and make possible the achievement of the objectives of Military Intelligence Service. MIS directors should also be mentioned for their sacrifices and devotion during the years such as: Mr. Kadri Skerja, Col. Hysen Harapi, Brigadier General Besnik Selami, Mr. Saimir Kodra, Colonel Kujtim Jaho, Colonel Eduart Bala, Colonel Hysni Gjergji and Colonel Ylli Zyla.

Mission

Military Intelligence Service supports the Armed Forces and authorities of leadership and its strategic commanding with intelligence, counterintelligence and security information, at a strategic and operational level in time of peace, war or crises.
MIS collects, analyses and identifies data on the activity that threatens the national security, possible threats and dangers to the Armed Forces, that come from abroad and/or appear in the country.
