6th Peacekeeping Contingent leaves for Afghanistan

In the Rapid Reaction Brigade, Zall-Herr, there was organized the ceremony to see off the 6th Peacekeeping Contingent, who wil carry out the successive mision in Herat, Afghanistan.
The Minister of Defense, Arben Imami, in his speech congratulated the participating troops expressing the conviction that this mission will be part of success of the Armed forces in peacekeeping mission all over the word.
” Certainly, it is an honor, but also a big responsibility for you because you will represent a NATO member, the values and obligations deriving from this fact, above all. You are going on mission as the Armed force have fully been engaged to cope with the situation created by the inundation in the northwerstern lowland of the country.” said Imami.
In this context, he thanked in particular all the military members who responded with maximal readiness to the unusual situation in Shkodër and Lezhë, demonstrating thus they are a professional force, as dignified as other NATO countries. Also, he appreciated the cooperation with the Italian Armed Forces, as regards the contribution they made to the Albanian contingents, who served under their command, but also for the cooperation and support given for the urgent situation created
The Chief of DIE in Tiranë, colonnel Regali wished success to the 6th Contingent in the fulfillment of duty, convinced that the Italian and Albanian cooperation in the mission will be excellent.
The 6th contingent is part of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, that operates as a constituent of Rapid Reaction Brigade, and it is composed of a company of 112 officers, NCOs, and professional soldiers. It will replace the the 5th Contingent, and will continue to accomplish its mission on the military base of Herat, in the framework of ISAF mission of NATO, under the Italian command.
The mission will continue six months, and focused on tasks as: maintenance, protection, and security of the military base in Herat, its personel, infrastrukture, and other equipment of this important military base, as well as other duties of interest to this international peacekeeping operation
This mission follows 30 missions accomplished by the Rapid Reaction Brigade, and is the sixth one in Herat, Afghanistan, in support of peacekeeping operations against terrorism.
