Mida Mountain Radar has been activated. Xhaçka: We have a completed view of the Albanian Territory.

Albanian Armed Forces from now on will have the lacking eye for the airspace surveillance.
Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka inspected the newly built radar being operated in Mide, Pukë.
The radar is an investment of the Albanian and the American Governments and the project was implemented by the American Company “Lockheed Martin”.


Minister Xhaçka stressed that this is one of the largest investments in the Armed Forces, which will be followed by others, especially for the Air Force
“The Albanian Government, through the Ministry of Defense, has paid a particular attention to strengthening the defence capacities of our Armed Forces. The radar, is part of the Integrated Airspace Surveillance System. It is one of the largest investments of the Ministry of Defense, exactly 22 million dollars, 19 million investment of the Albanian Government and 3 million dollars investiment of the US Government. This project will enable our country to act in accordance with the threats faced by the Alliance nowadays.

This system is a product of the cooperation of the giant of the world’s military industry, the prestigious American Company in the field of Defense and Security ‘Lockheed Martin’, a company which is also engaged in the maintenance of the Integrated Surveillance System of our Maritime Space. Through this radar, the operational centres in the Air Force and the Armed Forces, as part of the most powerful military Alliance in the world, have from today a complete and clear aerial view of the territory of Albania, thus, enabling the country with the appropriate response against the multidimensional threats that the Alliance is facing in the era we are living in.

The Integrated Airspace Surveillance System is indeed the largest investment in the sector, nevertheless, the Air Force has been undergoing the process of modernization for years, part of which will be the Black Hawk helicopters, which are expected to be added after a few months to the Air Fleet, as well as other projects related to the Air Defense System according to NATO standards. ”- said Xhaçka.



With this radar, the Black Hawk helicopters that will come soon, the investment in Kuçova, or the projects related to the Air Defense System, our Air Force reaches a level of operation, which till nowadays lacked.
The project for the newly installed radar on Mida Mountain in Puka cost 22 million $, 19 million $ from the state budget and 3 million $, from a US Government donation.
