Ermal Nufi

Defence Minister of Republic of Albania

Mr. Ermal Nufi holds the position of Defence Minister of the Republic of Albania, since March 2026.

In this role, he leads the country’s defence and security policies, contributing to strengthening Albania’s role within NATO, enhancing the capabilities of the Albanian Armed Forces, and advancing strategic cooperation with international partners in the field of security and defence.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Nufi served as Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, where he contributed to inter-institutional coordination, legal support, and the development of policy-making processes at the central level of government. In this capacity, he was involved in supporting the decision-making processes of the Council of Ministers and coordinating legislative and institutional initiatives at the governmental level.

Mr. Nufi completed his Master’s degree in Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana in 2010. Following his graduation, he practiced as a lawyer and legal consultant, working in the private sector as well as with national and international organizations, focusing on civil and commercial law and corporate governance matters.

Since 2013, he has been a licensed attorney with the National Chamber of Advocacy and has served as a member of the Governing Council of the Tirana Chamber of Lawyers. Throughout his professional career, he has also held the positions of Legal Advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr. Nufi has also held leadership roles on the boards of several public administration institutions and entities in the security and defence sector. By decision of the Council of Ministers, he was appointed Chairman of the Managing Board of the Albanian Road Authority and member of the Governing Council of the State Cadastre Agency, while serving ex officio as Chairman of the Board of the State Authority for Geospatial Information. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of KAYO sh.a., a company operating in the defence and security industry, providing products and services to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania and to international markets.

Mr. Ermal Nufi is married and has two children.
