The Minister at NATO’s Defense Ministerial: Albania is ready to increase investments in Defense

Defense Minister Mr. Pirro Vengu participated in the NATO Defense Ministers' Meeting in Brussels, led by the Alliance’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte. The main focus of the summit was the pressing need for increased contributions and capabilities from allied countries, particularly in the context of ongoing negotiations for lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Minister Vengu remarked: “With the new momentum from the United States, there are high expectations for greater efforts from European countries to strengthen combat capacities and take on new responsibilities for the defense of the continent.”
During the summit, Minister Vengu conveyed Albania's commitment, on behalf of the Albanian government, to channel increased defense funding into enhanced operational capacities, revitalization of the defense industry, and infrastructure improvements to support the modernization of Albanian forces and contribute to the Alliance’s efforts.
“A responsive military industry is crucial to produce the necessary armament, ammunition, and equipment.” - Minister Vengu emphasized.
The Albanian Defense Minister also highlighted the need for heightened vigilance from the Alliance in Southeastern Europe, particularly in Kosovo, and in the Adriatic-Ionian region, where allied strategies must be updated to address the growing number of hybrid challenges we face.
Throughout the summit, Minister Vengu held a series of meetings with his counterparts from allied countries, including with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who was attending his first NATO ministerial.
