NATO Defence Ministers meetings in Brussels

26 - 27 February 2014

NATO Defence Ministers agreed on Wednesday (26 February 2014) to move ahead with plans to improve a set of defence capabilities which are key to dealing with future security challenges. NATO Secretary General, Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen said: “Through our operations, including Libya and Afghanistan, we have identified the areas where our capabilities do not go far enough or too few countries have them.”

Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli emphasized Albania’s commitment, as member of the Alliance in all dimensions, in the service of global security and as part of joint efforts for a stronger and more efficient organization.

Albania will continue to be in Afghanistan after 2014

On the second day of the NATO Ministerial proceedings in Brussels, Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli in her remarks stated that, Albania will continue to be engaged in Afghanistan after the year 2014. Minister Kodheli also stressed that, the Armed Forces of Albania are committed to take part in joint exercises with NATO troops from 2015 onwards.

During her stay in Brussels, Mrs. Kodheli had a phone call, from NATO headquarters, with our troops deployed in Afghanistan. Minister Kodheli expressed to them the support of the government and of the Ministry of Defence for constant attention and care dedicated to the troops participating in peacekeeping missions, and wished them success in accomplishing the noble tasks and healthy return home.

NATO Secretary General discusses Afghanistan, Balkans with Albanian Prime Minister

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen discussed NATO missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo and security in the wider Balkans with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday (17 September 2013). “Albania makes a valuable contribution to NATO. You make a valuable contribution to our missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo. And through your cooperation with your neighbours, you make a valuable contribution to security across the region,” the Secretary General said. He stressed, “this is a time of hope and opportunity in the Western Balkans, a time to build for the future, not look to the past.”
