Albanian patrol boat concludes navy’s first NATO tour

The Albanian Navy’s ALS ORIKU patrol boat on Wednesday (22 November 2017) wrapped up a full year of operations with NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), marking a major milestone in the Albanian Navy’s first ever NATO deployment. Joining NATO’s Aegean mission in November 2016, the ALS ORIKU monitored and patrolled the waters between Turkey and Greece, supporting international efforts aimed at curbing human trafficking.

On the first day of the Defence Ministerial, held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka met UK Defence Secretary, Gavin Willliamson, who has recently been appointed to this position. At the bilateral meeting with Xhaçka, Williamson appreciated the development of Albanian - UK bilateral relations and cooperation between the countries.

On Thursday, September 4, in Wales began the two-day NATO Summit. The summit was attended by high-level delegations from the 28 member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. The Albanian delegation was headed by Prime Minister, Mr. Edi Rama, part of which was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ditmir Bushati and the Minister of Defence Mrs. Mimi Kodheli.
