Minister Nufi: “Modernising military education to Euro-Atlantic standards is a government priority”

The Armed Forces Academy has opened the 2026–2027 academic year at its new state-of-the-art campus, welcoming 289 students who will undertake professional and military education in preparation for serving their country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Defence Minister Ermal Nufi described the new campus as a tangible expression of Albania’s vision for modern, professional and capable Armed Forces prepared to address future challenges.
Minister Nufi reaffirmed that the modernisation of military education remains a government priority, emphasising the need for a high-quality, competitive system consistent with Euro-Atlantic standards.
“Our responsibility is to build a military education system that meets the needs of today’s Armed Forces while preparing our personnel for the challenges of tomorrow. We must develop a high-quality, competitive and fully interoperable system based on Euro-Atlantic standards. Albania is a committed NATO Ally, no longer simply a beneficiary of security, but an active contributor to it. Our ambition is not merely to belong to the Alliance, but to become an increasingly capable Ally that makes a meaningful contribution,” Minister Nufi said.
The Academy begins the new academic year in a modern campus designed and built in accordance with international standards. According to Minister Nufi, investment in education is a direct investment in national security, particularly as artificial intelligence, cyber threats and emerging technologies continue to reshape conflicts and military operations.
“Tomorrow’s military personnel must not only know how to use technology; they must also understand how technology is transforming the way we think, plan and make decisions." he added.
Minister Nufi also commended the Academy’s lecturers, instructors and staff for their work and acknowledged the essential support provided by the students’ families throughout their educational journey.
The ceremony was attended by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji; Commandant of the Armed Forces Academy, Major General Ferdinand Dimo; academics, commanders, senior officials, military personnel and students.
