Education in the Albanian Armed Forces passes through two institutions within the AAF, specifically: the Armed Forces Academy and the Security and Defense College, while Institutional and Functional Career Courses serve for career advancement.

The Academy of the Armed Forces (Academy of AAF) is a Higher Education Institution under a special status, entirely focused on the field of Defense and Security.
Academy of AAF is responsible for the training of new officers and the education of both military and civilian personnel in security institutions, both domestically and abroad. The Academy offers eight educational programs, including five Bachelor’s degree programs (3 - year Bachelor’s degree and 4 – year Bachelor’s degree) and three Master's degree programs: one of them is Master of Professional Studies degree and is a one-year-program, and the other two are Master of Science with a two-year-program.

The Academy of AAF has signed cooperation agreements with several public and private institutions, such as: University "Aleksandër Moisiu" (Durrës), Polytechnic University (Tirana), University of Tirana, University "Luarasi", University "Marin Barleti", and the University of Korça.

The Academy of AAF also provides exceptional opportunities for education at some of the most prestigious EU institutions, offering professional internships, student exchange programs, and many other facilities.
The Academy in 2023, in cooperation with the USA, adopted the "West Point" academy model.

The Defense and Security College (DSC) plays an important role in the career development of military and civilian personnel. The Defense and Security College plans, develops and directs career courses up to the strategic level, through the application of the most advanced and up-to-date educational methods and principles, effective management and use of intellectual, scientific and material resources.
The Defense and Security College is a unit under the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Institutional and Functional Courses are an integral part of the education and training system of military personnel for career development in the Armed Forces. Institutional courses aim to and are a legal criterion for advancement in rank, while functional courses aim to train officer and non-commissioned officer personnel in performing functional duties.
