Minister Xhacka in Germany: Justice Reform has frightened anti-reformist actors

During her visit in Berlin, the Albanian Defence Minister, Mrs. Olta Xhacka was welcomed at a special meeting by the German Defence Minister, Ursula von der Leyen. The conferred about the intensification of relations between the two countries and the European perspective of our country.

Minister Xhaçka thanked her counterpart Ursula von der Leyen for the generous support and assistance that Albania has received from the German Government, while praising the special role that Germany plays as a guarantor of security and stability in the region.

Xhaçka and Von der Leyen mostly focused on the country's integration processes into the European family and on the anticipated vote for the opening of Albania's membership negotiations.

Mrs. Xhaçka informed the German Defence Minister about the importance of this moment and what it really means not just to Albania, but to the region as a whole. "We share the same view that Albania's European perspective is the right alternative and that the integration of Albania and the region into Euro-Atlantic structures is a necessity step for the modernization and Europeanization of our countries, but also a necessity for the security and stability of Albania and the region as a security paradigm of Europe's own stability ", - said after meeting the Defence Minister.

Focusing on political situation in Albania, Minister Xhaçka briefed the German counterpart about the ongoing efforts to modernize the country by undertaking difficult reforms, such as the reform of the justice system.


“We also discussed about the political situation in Albania, which comes at a very unfortunate moment, on the eve of the decision of the EU Council, but is ultimately a consequence of our efforts to modernize the country by undertaking difficult reforms, such as the reform of the justice system, that have disturbed a lot of vested interests and united in resistance the anti-reformist parties that have reason to fear from the emergence of an independent justice system”, - said minister Xhacka.

Minister Xhaçka expressed her belief that the country has come this far thanks to the support of our friends as allies, such as Germany, and that with their support and assistance will manage to move forward in the integration process by getting recognition for all that we have done in order to Europeanize Albania.
