The AAF completes the Vjosa embankment reinforcement in Fier

After nearly 6 months of work, the Engineering Battalion of Armed Forces in cooperation with Fier Municipality completed the repair and reinforcement of the Vjosa river embankment.
In addition to repairing the damage caused by the recent floods, the pioneers raised the embankment by over 2 meters from the initial level, providing more security for the habitations and agricultural lands of the inhabitants alongside Vjosa River.

The repaired embankment has a length of about 4 km, starting from the village of Ferras in Levan Administrative Unit up to the village of Frakull, near the Levan - Tepelenë National Road. The repairs included the excavation, loading, transport, spread and rolling of about 47,000 m³ of inert material, filling the embankment and compressing the terrain.

The involvement of the Armed Forces in the reinforcement of this embankment enabled to carry out the completion of works in a very short time and at minimal cost.
Following the transition of Civil Emergencies as the area of responsibility of the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces have given special importance to coping and prevention of natural disasters, responding in time to the needs and demands of the local government.
