Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo visited today the Inter-institutional Maritime Operational Centre in Plepa, Durrës, on the occasion of the capacity building of the maritime surveillance system. She was welcomed by the director of this centre, Major General (R) Maksim Malaj.
Minister Kodheli was briefed on the work made for the surveillance and control of the marine space by the personnel of this centre. During the meetings she had with the leadership and specialists of this institution, it was confirmed to defence minister that the radar system, non-functional for more than three years, is completely efficient. This system gave its results just yesterday, making possible the detection and seizure of a ship in Ksamil, which was forces to throw away at sea 50 kg of marijuana.

Defence Minister Kodheli focusing on the importance of this system, not only to the work of the Ministry of Defence or Ministry of Interior, but also for the information exchange with our international partners, highlighted that, now, we have eyes. “We could not guarantee the safety and security of Albania and its citizens compared to our neighbours, but now, in short time, our country is safer. The full efficiency of this system was made possible by a two times less fund, than the one planned by the former government.
Mrs. Kodheli guaranteed that the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces will be wherever the Albanian citizens need them, in any kind of emergency.
