Defence Minister Kodheli at the NATO Defence Ministers meetings in Brussels

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli is taking part at the Defence Ministerial of NATO member countries being held in Brussels.
At the ministerial will be discussed important issues related to developments inside NATO, such as: situation in Ukraine, restructuring and reduction, finances, Alliance’s expectations from the NATO Summit in Wells, 04-05 September 2014; Defence capacity building; challenges the Alliance is facing in Afghanistan, etc.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the Alliance Defence Ministers emphasized that NATO will continue to be committed to cooperation with Ukraine. They praised the role of the Army, which did not become part of internal political conflict and underlined once again the importance of democratic processes in an independent and stable Ukraine, committed towards the rule of law.
On the first day of the proceedings, Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli emphasized Albania’s commitment, as member of the Alliance in all dimensions, in the service of global security and as part of joint efforts for a stronger and more efficient organization.
During the day, Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli met Ms. Francesca Tardioli, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General. During the talks, Minister Kodheli informed Ms. Tardioli about the recent developments in Albania, and focused especially on the needed reforms in Defence. Speaking about civil emergencies or natural disasters, Mrs. Kodheli sought support in facing them.
From her part, Ms. Tardioli sought a preliminary assessment on the Albania’s needs, and guaranteed NATO support. In this context, Minister Kodheli acquainted Ms. Tardeli about the Albanian Government commitment in the fight against corruption.
Another issue both interlocutors discussed was the political situation in Italy. Ms. Tardioli said that the new Italian Government has an ambitious program such as, electoral and institutional reform or avoidance of bureaucracy. On this topic, she praised the role of the Italian President, Mr. Giorgio Napolitano, in solving the crisis.
The Defence Ministerial of NATO member countries being held in Brussels will conclude its proceedings on February 27, 2014.
