New buoys placed to define and mark the Albania-Montenegro border in Shkodra Lake

For Albanian and Montenegrin fishermen, also for the Border Police of both countries will be easier to orient and distinguish the border line while navigating in Shkodra Lake. 

The Joint Commission for the Reconstruction and Repair of Signs on the State Borders Albania-Montenegro, which includes the Hydrographic Service of the Navy, the Institute of Geography and Military Infrastructure and the Border Police, decided to place 6 buoys in full agreement with the Montenegrin side (new distinctive marking signs in the lake).

The placement was carried out by an Air Force "Cougar" helicopter.

The border between Albania and Montenegro in Shkodra Lake is defined by 21 buoys, which due to atmospheric conditions and lack of maintenance were damaged and did not exist for years.

According to the agreement between the two governments, the Albanian side is responsible for the installation and maintenance of 11 buoys, while the Montenegrin side for 10 such.

In the last two years, 8 new water signs on the border with Montenegro in Lake Shkodra have been restored from the Albanian side, including 3 light signals to help with visibility during the night.
