Defence Minister Niko Peleshi early this morning inspected the flooded areas in Shkoder and Lezhw. In Kallmet, Lezhw, he underlined that the situation was now improved in the last 24 hours.. This was the result of the water level diminishing, one of the reasons was the good performance from all the responsible institutions in recent years.
“The withdrawal of water and this improvement of the situation comes from the well done job in recent years, the cleaning of irrigation and drainage canals. The rapid withdrawal of water as soon as the rainfall stopped, shows that the investments are functional. I want to greet the local Government, the Municipality, the Mayor for they good work." , - said Minister Peleshi.
The National Civil Protection Agency has an ongoing cooperation with all staff set up to prevent any situation that may arise from the increase of rainfall which, as Minister Peleshi said, may reach a peak on January 11, based on IGJEUM forecasts.
Later on that day, the Defence Minister was in Obot, where he highlighted that the good management of the Drini Cascade can prevent the aggravation of the situation. In the Administrative Unit Ana e Malit due to the natural conditions of the area there is no water withdrawal, but according to the minister there is no danger to people's lives.
"Yesterday we had two - three evacuation in Lezha. One in the city and two in the rural area. We also had evacuations in Shkodra. At the moment we have 260 special troops from the Armed Forces on heightened alert. We have over 1200 troops engaged. We have increased military readiness, we have doubled the troops. At national level, all municipalities have engaged and mobilized 1500 troops in total. ", - said the Defence Minister
