Balkan Chiefs of Defense Conference in Albania, Peleshi: Unwavering in our role as guarantors of peace and stability

 

Albania hosted the Balkan Chiefs of Defense Conference, where Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi and President Bajram Begaj, also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, extended their greetings. Minister Peleshi emphasized Albania's pivotal role in regional cooperation and its steadfast commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity.

"Our dedication to Western values and our role as champions of human dignity in a rule-based world remain unwavering." - said Minister Peleshi. He highlighted Albania's alignment with the government's foreign policy, focusing on good neighborliness, Euro-Atlantic integration, and enhancing regional cooperation for mutual benefit.

Reflecting on the region's historical challenges, Minister Peleshi stressed the need to transcend ethnic, cultural, and political divisions that have historically fueled conflicts. He underscored ongoing comprehensive reforms across Balkan countries aimed at fostering security policies and sustainable economic development.

Minister Peleshi addressed the conference theme of youth engagement in defense and security, emphasizing Albania's commitment to recruiting and integrating young people into the Armed Forces. He cited Albania's active involvement in various international missions, underscoring its contributions to regional and global security.

President Bajram Begaj described the conference as crucial for regional cooperation and stability amidst increasing security challenges. He emphasized the role of youth in shaping a secure future through dialogue, mutual respect, and innovation within the Armed Forces.

Albanian Chief of Defense Major General Arben Kingji highlighted the necessity of a unified regional approach to manage security challenges effectively. He underscored the forum's role in building mutual trust and understanding among Balkan countries.

The Balkan Chiefs of Defense initiative, involving Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia, aims to bolster regional peace and security through military cooperation. Croatia and Slovenia participated as observers.

Representatives from the EU Military Committee and NATO Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples, Italy, also attended, demonstrating broader international engagement in Balkan security affairs.
