Minister Vengu at the Land Force Command: Prioritizing military personnel in modernization and capacity enhancement plans

Defense Minister Pirro Vengu, accompanied by Major General Arben Kingji, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, visited the Land Force Command in Zall-Herr.

“Our Land Force has been at the forefront of modernization efforts since our NATO membership and now bears the primary responsibility for our contributions to collective security and international missions.” - Vengu emphasized in his address to the staff and troops.

This significant role of the Land Force is also reflected in its involvement in supporting Civil Defense operations and responding to natural disasters, with 4,500 personnel participating in various operations across the country since the beginning of 2024.|

The minister highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive support to our military personnel: “We cannot have successful modernization programs and capacity-building initiatives without putting our military personnel at the center of our efforts. This is a priority of the Rama government—to ensure that our military is well-trained, well-equipped, and well-paid.”

In presenting the progress of recruitment processes, the minister noted the nearly 50% increase in interest in military recruitment compared to last year and the record number of applications this year to the Armed Forces Academy, with 1,114 applicants vying for 70 study slots. This, he said, is a positive signal indicating that the Armed Forces are becoming an attractive career option for the younger generation, offering a wide range of professions and prestigious career paths.

“This signal must be supported by offering more meritocracy, opportunities for professional development, and greater economic security for the families of our personnel.” - Vengu added.

During his meeting with the Land Force Command Staff, Minister Vengu also extended his best wishes to the newly appointed Deputy Commander of the Land Force, Brigadier General Altin Kurti, for success in his new role.
