The new military industry law comes into effect today, setting the stage for the modernization and revitalization of Albania’s legacy industrial capacities.
To mark this significant step, Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defense Dorian Tola, visited the Mjekës plant in Elbasan, symbolizing the start of a new era for the industry. During the visit, Minister Vengu toured the production facilities and was briefed on ongoing operations. He met with the plant’s leadership and workers, stressing the critical need for investment, which the new law will facilitate, to restore the plant as a key part of the nation's military infrastructure.
The new military industry law also enables the establishment of a trading company with the necessary capabilities to compete in both national and international military strategy markets, in line with current global security and defense trends.
Rebuilding the military industry will require a holistic and coordinated approach that addresses technological and operational challenges, as well as legal, financial, economic, social, and environmental considerations.
This initiative is designed to foster innovation and technological advancement in the defense sector through close collaboration with the private sector. Through these efforts, Albania aims to bolster its strategic role in the region, positioning itself as a key player in defense and security, fully aligned with the objectives of the North Atlantic Alliance.
