Thousands of documents from the Central Archive of the Armed Forces will be incorporated into the State Central Archive. The integration process has begun and is expected to be completed by January 1, 2025. Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, along with Ardit Bido, Director General of the State Central Archive, visited the Armed Forces Archive to observe the ongoing work and the challenges associated with the digital transformation of the archive.
The Central Archive of the Armed Forces reflects the ongoing effort to build, strengthen, and maintain the Armed Forces throughout Albania’s nation-building phases. This archive has been enriched over decades with significant collections and continues to grow daily.
The integration of the Central Archive of the Armed Forces into the State Central Archive will improve accessibility, digitization, and expand availability for researchers and security experts.
Work is also ongoing to process several linear kilometers of archival materials that have not yet been addressed by existing collections. The Albanian government will fund the construction of a new facility within the archival complex to house this valuable national resource, equipped with modern conditions to preserve it for the next 100 years.
