The U.S.-Adriatic Charter Defense Ministerial concludes in Tirana. Minister Vengu: Albania supports the Open Door Policy, with Kosovo's membership as a priority

Defense ministers from U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A-5) member and observer countries gathered in Tirana to discuss key defense and security issues for the Western Balkans. The meeting was co-chaired by Albania's Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, and U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander.

Minister Vengu thanked the U.S. for its invaluable support in political, security, and defense developments in Albania and the region. He highlighted discussions on the strategic security environment in Europe, the importance of the Adriatic Charter, and the U.S. role in the region.

The ministerial also addressed the recent attack in northern Kosovo, emphasizing solidarity with Kosovo and condemning the attack on regional security. Other topics included revitalizing the Adriatic Charter, Kosovo’s membership, and defense capacity development in line with NATO's planning.

This event marks the conclusion of Albania’s engagement in the U.S.-A5 Initiative for the year, following a series of high-level security and defense events hosted in Albania throughout 2024.
