The General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Land Force Command based on the daily communications with Albania’s peacekeeping missions throughout the world, were informed today about an incident that has happened to “Eagle 8” mission.

The incident occurred at 16:20 local time in Spin Boldak, Kandahar.

A convoy of three vehicles, which included Albanian and American personnel, carried out a routine patrol in the Wesh Border, near the Afghan border. On the way back, the convoy was hit by a kamikaze vehicle, which exploded. As a result of this crash, the first car of the convoy was damaged, but it was able to move on.

There were members of the American team inside this vehicle. While the other two vehicles of the convoy that included members of the “Eagle 8”, have not suffered any physical damage. So far, only two American soldiers of the first vehicle are reported as injured and they are under medical assistance.

We assure the families of the soldiers in Afghanistan that there are no injured soldiers, and that our troops are safe continuing the successful fulfilment of the tasks.
