Minister Vengu at the U.S.–Adriatic Charter (A-5) Ministerial: A vital platform for security and stability in the region

Defence Minister Pirro Vengu took part in the U.S.–Adriatic Charter (A-5) Ministerial in Sarajevo, a forum bringing together the United States and five Western Balkan countries.

Following the meeting, Defence Minister Vengu stated: "The Western Balkans still faces many inherited challenges and emerging threats, which require closer partnership and increased investment in human capital, cyber defence, industry, equipment, and joint systems."

He emphasized: "Together with the United States, we believe this regional initiative is an essential platform that must be oriented toward more effective cooperation, in order to strengthen the resilience of every participating country."

In this context, Defence Minister Vengu underlined that Kosovo’s membership in A-5 is a strategic necessity.

The Albanian Defence Minister reaffirmed Albania’s full readiness to contribute.

The U.S.–Adriatic Charter (A-5) is a regional defence cooperation mechanism established in 2003 by the United States, Albania, Croatia, and North Macedonia to support NATO integration. Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the initiative on December 4, 2008.
