Defence Minister Vengu convenes the Civil Emergencies Committee

Defence Minister Pirro Vengu convened today, at the premises of the National Agency for Civil Protection, the Interministerial Civil Emergencies Committee, where the situation caused by heavy rainfall across the country over the past 24 hours was discussed.

During the meeting, a detailed assessment of the situation on the ground was conducted, with a focus on the areas most affected by flooding, landslides, and infrastructure-related issues. The responsible structures reported on the measures taken so far, emergency response actions, and the need for additional support.

Defence Minister Pirro Vengu called for full readiness from all institutions, continuous coordination between central and local authorities, and uninterrupted monitoring of the situation in order to ensure the safety of citizens and minimize damage.

Over the past 24 hours, most of the country has experienced heavy rainfall, which in some regions has caused localized problems, though without serious consequences for citizens’ lives.

The situation is being closely monitored in the regions of Lezhë and Durrës, where water accumulation has been recorded on several road sections and river levels have risen significantly.

According to the Institute of GeoSciences (IGEO), heavy rainfall is expected to continue until January 8.

Civil Protection structures at both central and local levels, under the coordination of the National Agency for Civil Protection, remain on full alert.

Citizens are advised to avoid high-risk areas and to seek assistance from the authorities if needed.
