105 Years of the Engineer Battalion, minister Vengu: Strengthening this unit with equipment is our objective

A solemn ceremony marked the 105th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Engineer Battalion, one of the most important and highly specialized branches of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania.

The event was attended by Pirro Vengu, alongside senior military leaders, former commanders of the Engineer Corps, reserve and retired military personnel.

In his address, Minister Vengu praised the historical and ongoing contribution of the Engineer Battalion to national security, infrastructure development, and the response to civil emergencies. He emphasized that the anniversary represents not only a celebratory moment, but also an opportunity to reflect on the need for the continuous enhancement of the force’s professional and technical capabilities:

“The essence of this anniversary lies in the need for a force that is constantly becoming more specialized, demonstrating not only combat capabilities, but also the ability to manage risk in peacetime conditions and during civil tasks.” - said Minister Vengu.

The Minister underlined that the Engineer Battalion has been, and continues to be, one of the most actively engaged components of the Armed Forces, operating on the front line both in international missions and in emergency situations at home, providing direct support to local communities:

“The Engineer unit is always the first to respond, it never says no, and it goes wherever duty and the homeland require, especially during civil emergencies, where your professionalism and dedication have been recognized by all.” - declared the Defence Minister.

Looking to the future, Minister Vengu stressed that strengthening the Engineer Battalion with modern equipment, tools, and technology remains a clear objective of the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff, and the Albanian Government, in order to enhance community safety and national resilience.

Today, the Engineer Battalion remains a key element of a modern military force, where technical capacity and engineering expertise are as vital as combat skills, giving the Armed Forces a clear dimension of reconstruction and renewal in service of Albania.
