Defence Minister Mimi Kodheli official visit to Georgia

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli is on an official visit to Georgia. She was welcomed in a special meeting by the Defence Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Alasania. During the meeting, both counterparts discussed important issues of bilateral cooperation and commitments under international and NATO initiatives.
Defence Minister Kodheli assured her counterpart for the Albania’s stance in favour of Georgia’s integrating aspirations for NATO membership. “As I stated at the NATO-Georgia commission proceedings a few days ago, Albania thinks Georgia is an important partner of the Alliance. Georgia’s commitment to NATO peacekeeping missions is a clear sign of this partnership”, said Minister Kodheli.
Focusing on cooperation in Defence, Mrs. Kodheli said that both countries can plan joint exercises and trainings, from which the best experiences can be gained.
During her stay in Georgia, Minister Kodheli was welcomed in a special meeting by the President of the Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvilli and Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. David Usupashvili. During the talks, Minister Kodheli urged the Georgian authorities to recognize the state of Kosovo, stressing that Kosovo’s declaration of independence is a unique precedent in international law. According to Minister Kodheli, any attempt to link Kosovo precedent to the separatist situation in the Caucasus region is tendentious and does not correspond to the international reality.
