MoD Secretary General, Mr. Kraja visits NATO Support Agency (NSPA)

On September 15-16, 2014, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence headed by its Secretary General, Mr. Arian Kraja, conducted a working visit to the Headquarters of the NATO Support Agency (NSPA), Capellen, Luxembourg. The purpose of the visit focused on restoring contacts and enhancing the cooperation of our country with this NATO structure. In particular, during the discussions with NSPA senior officials, our delegation focused on key topics such as, demilitarization of weapons/ammunition; procurement and opportunities for Albanian companies in this regard; clearance of hotspots in our country, as well as other aspects.

On September 15, 2014, Mr. Kraja, as a member of the Supervisory Board of the NATO Support Agency, held a courtesy meeting with the NPSA General Manager, Mr. Mike Lyden. During the meeting, they discussed the objectives and goals of the Ministry of Defence to increase cooperation with NPSA.

Focusing on the aspects of demilitarization, Mr. Kraja thanked Mr. Lyden for the commitment of the Agency as the main implementer of the destruction process of weapons / ammunition in our country. He informed that Albania is ready to explore all opportunities in order to use their experience and facilities in support of this process for allied and partner countries. Mr. Kraja emphasized our efforts on the clearance of hotspots in site, seeking the NSPA’s support and assistance. On this issue, Mr. Lyden expressed readiness to explore the available opportunities.

Regarding the procurement process, the possibility to “initiate” a possible relationship of mutual interest was discussed, within the legal framework in order to structure this relationship. In particular, the option to procure from the Agency was discussed, as well as the potential opportunity for the participation of the Albanian companies in international procurement of NPSA. During the meeting, other topics were discussed finding the support of Mr. Lyden. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Kraja invited the NPSA General Manager for an official visit in our country, which was accepted with pleasure.
