Minister Kodheli, phone conversation with her German counterpart

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli had a phone conversation with the Minister of Defence of Germany, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen. During the conversation both counterparts discussed about Defence and Security issues in the region and beyond. They also talked about the situation in the Alliance’s borders, as well as about efforts to address risks, knowing that Albania is part of the coalition, donating weapons and ammunition to the Iraqi Government.

Mrs. Kodheli focused on giving a new impetus to the cooperation between our two countries in Defence. She acquainted her German counterpart with reforms undertaken by the Albanian Armed Forces, as well as about the modernization process, which foresees the replacement of the old eastern weapons with NATO-standard ones.

The German Defence Minister stressed that her country is ready to play a moderating role for Albania’s needs. “We admire what you are doing for the modernization process”, stated among others the German Defence Minister Ms. Von der Leyen.
Both counterparts talked about finding other opportunities for cooperation and agreed that relevant staffs should review the modalities of this cooperation, such as military industry and participation in joint operations.
