Defence Minister, Mrs. Kodheli inspected the construction work of a bailey bridge over the River Mat in the Municipality of Klos. The construction of this bridge comes as a necessity for the people of this area, as the existing bridge built about 36 years ago is in bad condition and serves only for pedestrians.

After speaking about the characteristics and difficulties regarding the construction of this bridge, Minister Kodheli also disclosed the main reason why the Ministry of Defense and Albanian Armed Forces responded positively to the request of the local authorities. "In fact it has been a difficult job and will still be a difficult job till the end of this project completion. A bridge of 42nd meters, relatively a long one, will hold about 18 tons, which means to carry not only the vehicles, but also vans with students that go to the schools of Klos, which is the most important reason why AAF have worked on this bridge and have been motivated to do so in record of time. From now on parents will have no concern that their children are walking in a bridge that is absolutely unsafe. Definitly parents will have the safety that they lacked for years and they should be quiet about it.

The seriousness with which AAF are working, and the professionalism with which sapper forces accomplish the workings of this nature should make citizens of this area feel safe, and perhaps be grateful of what we do."- Said Minister Kodheli, who responded to the requests made by residents for extending this project with the construction of highway. “It will be considered your request for the extension of a road bridge, which can eliminate dozen of kilometers, turning them on only in 4,5 km."

During the inspection were present, the deputy of this local area Mr. Cani, the Mayor of Klos Mr. Basir Çupa, Commander of SC Colonel Fatmir Lokaj, as well as many residents of the area.

The bridge that is being built by the sappers of the Support Command join the villages Xhibër, Shkallë, Fshat, Kela and Darsi, with the Muncipality of Klos and of Burrel.

AAF remediates the tunnels in Klos

During her visit in the Municipality of Klos, minister Kodheli inspected also the work being done by a group of Support Command and of the EOD Company for remediating the tunnels from the ammunition that was found near the domestic areas of this zone.

Following an explosion in 1997, the tunnels of AF in Klos were contaminated and cemented. 19 years after the explosion, members of the Armed Forces found in these environments different types of ammunition, such as cartridges, hand grenades, assault, shot armor - piercing shells and various types of Incendiary grenades and fuses “In the wayward year of ’97 here in this place came to –pass an explosion. After that wayward year are left many dangerous regions that need to be remediated and that AAF have been trying over the years to do that. Often some areas, as it is this remediated, have been a taboo, have been untouchable ‘Let it there, we have isolated it, and cemented it.’, and no one knows what happens in there. Actually inside that area may occur chemical process, that may produce an explosive reaction, something for that we should be lucky that has not happened, and the reason of that is because AAF have remediated all hot spots over the country and will still continue doing that till all the country become free of any remnants, waste, not only due to the absurd war of '97, but certainly as a result of the Armed Forces transformation into a smaller force and more professional”– stated Mrs. Kodheli, who took the chance to thank all the military troops that have taken part in the remediation of this areas, which as she said “the professionalism of sappers and of the mine specialists will turn these tunnels to places secure for the citizens in which may also be developed economical activities”.
