In the early morning of August 21, 2017, “Oriku” vessel, which is part of the operations in Aegean Sea, observed three speedboats sailing in Greek and Turkish waters.
At 01:30, our vessel observed a speedboat with 50 people on board sailing from Turkish seaside to Greek seaside.
During the first operation for blocking and taking on board the immigrants by “Frontex”, “Oriku” vessel observed a second speedboat. The operation for the first speedboat was finalized by our vessel until people on board were submitted to Greek authorities. In the meantime, “Frontex” vessel conducted the operation for the second speedboat.
At 04:35, our vessel observed a third speedboat. Observation showed that there were about 25-30 people on board. The speedboat was kept under observation in the location and “Frontex” and Greek Sea Guards were notified.
“Frontex” vessel took all the 53 people on board. Among them 16 were children, 13 women and 24 men of Iraqi, Iranian and Afghan citizenship.
Operations were successfully conducted and during these operations there were no people drowned or injured. All rescued immigrants were submitted to Greek and European authorities of “Frontex” for further verifying procedures.
