Arms control, cooperation with Germany increases

Deputy Minister of Defense, Petro Koci, hosted on an official visit the Director of the German Verification Center, Brigadier General Peter Braunstein, who paid a visit to our country on March 26-28, 2018.
The purpose of the meeting was to increase co-operation in the field of arms control, joint commitments in the framework of changes in Vienna Document 2011, adapting to the current challenges.
Mr. Koci expressed his appreciation for the engagement of the German Verification Center in terms of enhancing mutual trust in the region and beyond. He thanked Brigadier General Braunstein for the support that this center has provided in the field of Arms Control through the ongoing training provided to the Albanian Armed Forces personnel and also through the exchange of inspectors in joint activities.
The Deputy Minister also stressed the importance that our country gives to regional initiatives, citing in particular our contribution to the RACVIAC Security Collaboration Center, where Arms Control issues are one of the key areas of engagement.
After the meeting in the Ministry of Defense the German team, also had a meeting with representatives of the Directorate of Security Policy at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Our country has ratified Vienna Law Document in 1991 and is engaged in this respect, fulfilling all the obligations deriving from this document. Over 100 inspections and assessments in the region and beyond have been received and conducted so far for the implementation of Vienna Document 2011, to increase transparency and mutual trust measures.
