Different activities on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

On August 23, 2013, the UN decided that 6th April should be the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. At the same time, this date coincides with the opening day of the Modern Olympic Games, which took place in Athens in 1896.

In the context of this day, a massive event was organized at “Skanderbeg” Garrison, which corresponds with the agenda of the Defence Minister for the Nationwide Year of Gjergj Kastriot Skënderbeu.

At the opening of this event, the national record holder, who is at the same time a member of the Armed Forces, symbolically handed over the Olympic flame to the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Bardhyl Kollçaku, who then handed it over to a group of children as a sign of continuity.

Different teams from the Armed Forces and from abroad, participated in a different activities as: football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, athletics, karate, chess, etc.
April the 6th, as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace among other things, aims at promoting a healthy way of living and encouraging the International Olympic Movement that focuses on attracting as many people as possible to sport.

This date, considered as a new annual event, serves to promote sport and physical activity as a universal language and tool for education, health, social inclusion, youth development and the building of a cooperative and peaceful environment.


Today's activity was organized by the Cultural, Media and Defence Publications Centre as well as AAF Museum.
