“Lissus” replaces “Butrint” in the Aegean Sea

The Albanian Naval Force Ship Lissus and its crew, set off for the NATO operation "Sea Guardian". “Lissus” will replace “Butrint” that has been patrolling for about 6 months in the Aegean Sea.
The 9th Contingent left from Pashaliman Naval Base, and will serve for 3 months in the Aegean Sea operation.


The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commander of the Naval Force, representatives of local government in Vlora, Directors of the General Staff of AAF. There were also invited family members of the servicemen sent to the operation.
Two women are also part of “Lissus” crew, LT Eglantina Mone and Sgt Milika Poçi, nurse by profession.

The youngsters who are attending the orientation program "Youth - Talent - Opportunity - Dignity" were also invited at the ceremony. This program was organized by the Armed Forces in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.
The Naval Force Participation in the Sea Guardian operation began with “Oriku” ship, in November 2016, as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.

The Effectives and the Albanian ship patrol and report migrant traffic in the operational area and provide assistance in cases when human lives are at risk.
