The Armed Forces (AAF) and the citizens celebrated the Liberation Day in a totally different way. The pedestrian area of the capital served for several hours as a meeting place between the AAF and the citizens. They visited the stands where equipment and effectives from all AAF military units were located.
On this "AAF Open Day” the Armed Forces Wind Orchestra (AFWO) performed during the forenoon wearing its brand new uniform, bringing a festive atmosphere to children and adults. Today, it was introduced for the first time the brand new AFWO uniform designed in traditional Albanian motifs, on red and black colors, and the members of the wind band were especially greeted by Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka.
Minister Xhaçka, during her speech in front of hundreds of citizens, said that Albania’s history is full of war facts and sacrifices, but, 74 years after Liberation, as far as AAF are concerned, it is experiencing a completely different situation.
"This moment finds us alongside the NATO Allied Forces protecting the common values of democracy and the rule of law, not only in our country but also in the NATO countries members’ zone. Today, in this activity, are exposed a very small part of life and activity of these military servicemen and servicewomen. But, what they really do, what they really offer to our country, is impossible to demonstrate in this tiny space”, - said Minister Xhaçka.
She emphasized that those servicemen are always amongst people, close to the community, where people's lives are in danger and in need for their intervention.
"Being a member of these forces means to be on the main and in the most difficult front in the case of Civil Emergencies, risking their own life to save families and children endangered by natural disasters, helping families dislocated by these catastrophes. It also means to put the own life in danger to clean up hot spots from dangerous explosives, destroying rock massifs, building roads and bridges in difficult conditions, making our country safer and a better place to live and work with an improved quality of life", - said the Minister.
On the stands, everybody could closely see many of the weapons and equipment of the Armed Forces and the most attractive part of this celebration was the children's masquerade using camouflage face paints colours.
This event was also attended by ambassadors and military attachés accredited in Albania, as well as guests coming from abroad.
