Current Commitment
The Albanian Armed Forces (AAF) are currently engaged in Peacekeeping and Combat Missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, South Sudan and eFP Latvia, Bulgaria, Iraq, Aegean Sea and specifically, in December 2024, in KFOR, Kosovo, the AAF contribution continues with 250 military members, within the framework of the Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP), Riga, Latvia, the FARSH contribution continues with 44 military members; in Novo Selo, Bulgaria, the Enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) continues with 60 military members; “ALTHEA”, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the FARSH contribution continues with 2 military members; NATO mission with a Naval Force “Iliria” class ship in the FOCOPS (NATO Focus Collection Operations) operation in the Mediterranean Sea with 42 military personnel; in the Aegean Sea 44 military members; “NMI” - NATO mission in Iraq with 2 military members; Within the UN, the FARSH continues to contribute to the UNMISS (UN mission in South Sudan) and UNISFA - Abyei (UN Interim Security Force vfor Abyei) military operations in South Sudan with 6 military members; in Sinai, the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Multinational Force and Observations (MFO) Mission with 3 military members.

Increasing the contribution on missions
For the ongoing years our contribution to the following missions is planned to be increased:
2025
1. “ALTHEA” Mission, Bosnia and Herzegovina
2. “KFOR” Mission, Kosovo
3. “NSATU” Mission, Wiesbaden, Germany
4. “INTERFEX” Mission in the United Kingdom within the framework of “NSATU”

NSATU - Wiesbaden, Germany -
On December 1, 2024, the contribution of the Albanian Armed Forces to the NATO Assistance and Training Mission for Ukraine (NATO Assistance and Training for UKR. - NSATU) in Wiesbaden, Germany, began, with a 1-year rotation with 3 military members from the Military Police.

Sinai, Arab Republic of Egypt
On June 25, 2023 began the contribution of Albania Armed Forces to the Multinational Force and Observations (MFO) mission in Sinai, Arab Republic of Egypt, involving 3 military personnel from the Military Police in a 1 year rotation.

Enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) in Novo Selo, Bulgaria
Starting from November 29, 2022, the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF) are engaged in the Enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) in Novo Selo, Bulgaria.
The AAF contingent, consisting of 30 soldiers, is deployed as part of a NATO Battalion Group on the Eastern Borders of the Alliance.
Italy is leading this mission.
The rotation of contingents occurs every 6 months.

South Sudan
AAF contribution continues in the United Nations Mission In South Sudan (UNMISS) as part of the United Nations Organization (UN) with 2 military personnel, an added contribution during the year 2019.
In total, there are 10 military personnel.
In August 2023, the contribution of AAF is increased by 1 AAF member, for a one-year rotation in UNISFA, Abeyi zone.

NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP), Latvia
Since June 2017, AAF has engaged an EOD platoon as part of the Canadian Battalion of the NATO Advanced Enhanced Presence (eFP) in Latvia consisting of 18 soldiers. In addition to the current contributions, the Defence Minister has approved the addition of the AAF contribution of 3 military personnel to the eFP in Latvia.
The contribution of AAFduring the year 2022 in the NATO operation under the framework of the Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in Riga, Latvia, consisted of 41 military personnel.
The contribution of AAF during 2023 in the NATO operation under the framework of the Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in Riga, Latvia, consisted of 44 military personnel and specifically:
1 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team in the Canadian BG, with 20 military personnel,
1 position in the Canadian BG Headquarters,
1 position in Region III of the Allied Command for Communications and Information (ACCI) in Latvia.

Aegean Sea
AAF are commited in NATO Sea Guardian operation since November 2016 in the Aegean Sea with 1 ship, class “Iliria” and a crew of 21 military personnel.
Our mision is patroling as part of a group of different NATO ships, part of NATO Martime Group 2 (SNMG2) on the Aegean Sea within the NATO operation.
AAF contribution starting from November 21, 2016 until November 2019 was 302 military personnel.
During 2023, AAF contributed every 3-months with 1 (one) ship class "Iliria" and a crew of 21 military personnel.

Iraq
In April 2003, the first contingent of the AAF was engaged as part of coalition forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The contingent was sent based on the Law No.9025, dated 13.03.2003, “For the approval of normative act, based on the Law No. 1, dated 09.03. 2003, of the Council of Ministers, “For making availablethe Albanian land, air and navy area and sending Albanian military forces to the Region of Persian Gulf (Iraq), in the framework of the International coalition against terrorism”, DCM No.172, dated 25.02.2005, “For the reformation of the Commando Company of the AAF of the Republic of Albania together with the supporting structures of the Persian Gulf region, in the framework against terrorism”.
