Defence Minister Kodheli official visit to Greece, 14-15 January 2014

Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli held, on January 14-15, a two-day official visit to Athens, invited by the Minister of Defence of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos.
At the start of the visit, Minister Kodheli was received in a special meeting by the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Antonis Samaras. Mr. Samaras welcomed Mrs. Kodheli and congratulated her for the office of Minister of Defence of Albania. “Being a female defence minister means a lot and this is a very strong message”, - said Greek Prime Minister.

Following her visit, Defence Minister Kodheli laid a wreath at the monument of the “Unknown Soldier” at the Sindagma Square in Athens.

Following her two-day visit to Greece, held a meeting with her counterpart, the Greek Minister of Defence, Mr. Dimtris Avramopoulos. At this meeting, they discussed with enthusiastic tone about the cooperation between our two countries in important areas and with great impact for citizens of both countries. The topics discussed at the meeting dealt with cooperation in the field of defence, as well as the indisputable support to the Albania’s path towards the EU. Both sides shared the view that today’s meeting gives a new dimension to the cooperation between our two countries.
As Prime Minister Samaras, Minister Avramopoulos expressed the belief that under the leadership of the government Rama the future of Albania is secure. “It is a modern and visionary politician, and Albania is lucky to have such a politician, that enhances the values of the country”, - stated Mr. Avamopoulos for Prime Rama.

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, at the conclusion of her two-day visit to Greece, was received in a special meeting from the President Karolos Papulias. The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere. The interlocutors assessed the cooperation between our two countries, as two neighbouring countries, the oldest in the region, with old historical and traditional links.

In particular way, they shared the same opinion about the recent positive developments which are giving to our relations a new qualitative content in the interest of our two peoples, to peace and stability in the region, as an added value in the context of the whole European Union.
