Lance Corporal Luiza Gega, the Europian Athlete of the month

Lance Corporal of the Military Police Luiza Gega was announced European Athlete of January by the European Federation of Athletics.

The evaluation of the athlete, who is also part of the Albanian Armed Forces came after a remarkable performance at the World Tour of Indoor Halls in Karlsruhe, Germany, where she broke the national record in the 3000 m race.

Considering this achievement very significant for Albanian sport, Lance Corporal Gega dedicates this evaluation to the work done, to her coach Taulant Stërmasi, but also to those who support her, including the Armed Forces of Albania.

“The European Athletics Federation's announcement of the Athlete of the Month is certainly a great privilege. It is the first time for me, but also for an Albanian athlete to be nominated for such a prize and, moreover, to win it. It is a really intense and exhausting workout for me and my coach, but certainly, even for those who support me, and that are not a few, to be honest.’’ - says Lance Corporal Gega.

The Albanian athlete reveals her goal for the two of this year's biggest sports competitions, Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 and the European Athletics Championship, Paris 2020: "Of course it's hard, but my primary goal is to get to the finals first and then the best ranking. I hope very much to reach the top six, it would be a great success for me!”

During February, Lance Corporal Luiza Gega was announced Balkan Champion for the seventh consecutive time at the Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
