The Special Operations Forces in Zall-Herr are set to soon have a new multifunctional center, with construction already 80% complete.
Defense Minister Pirro Vengu, accompanied by U.S. Military Attaché to Albania, Captain Eric Cote, recently inspected the progress. The project, which began in April 2023, is on track to be finished by June next year.
Lieutenant Colonel Ajet Jata, Commander of the Special Operations Forces, shared further details about the development. They also visited the newly operational gym and boat storage areas.
During the visit, Minister Vengu remarked: “The Special Forces are a critical national asset, with a heavy responsibility to handle highly specialized operations. You’ve consistently exceeded expectations, particularly in personnel certification, achieving NATO standards ahead of schedule. Our support must continue, not just through better salaries and working conditions, or further investment in infrastructure, which will go on, but also by ensuring you have the right logistics and equipment.”
The Special Operations Forces facility in Zall-Herr has been undergoing phased renovations in recent years. The new building will accommodate around 400 special forces members and will include a modern shooting range for light firearms, as well as recreational spaces for the personnel. It will also feature a dedicated NATO communications room.
The unit is currently undergoing intensive training in preparation for the national evaluation exercise “SOLTG,” scheduled for early October 2024.
