Major General Ferdinand Dimo has officially taken over command of the Armed Forces Academy (AFA), following the handover ceremony from Brigadier General Bardhyl Nuredinaj.

The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Ermal Nufi, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji, as well as generals, officers, academic staff, cadets, and other guests.

Following the national anthem and the reading of the relevant orders, Brigadier General Nuredinaj expressed appreciation for the cooperation during his tenure, while Major General Dimo committed to further advancing the modernisation of the Academy in line with NATO standards. A key symbolic moment of the ceremony was the handover of the command flag, marking the official transition of leadership.

In his address, Defence Minister Nufi praised Brigadier General Nuredinaj for his contribution to the development of the Academy, highlighting important progress in academic consolidation, research capacity, and infrastructure development.

“The Academy’s accreditation last year represents a significant institutional achievement, reflecting the seriousness, standards, and quality of work delivered by its academic and leadership staff. Equally important is the progress on the new campus, which will welcome students next academic year. This is a strategic investment in the future of military education and in the standards we aim to achieve as a NATO member state,” Minister Nufi said.

Congratulating Major General Dimo on his new role, Minister Nufi emphasized the critical importance of the Armed Forces Academy in shaping future officers, developing strategic thinking, strengthening security culture, and building leadership capabilities within the Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces Academy must stand as the institution where tomorrow’s officers are formed, officers capable of leading, thinking strategically, and addressing the complex challenges of modern security. It must also be further consolidated as a key centre for scientific research in our country. We are fully committed to maintaining the pace of military education reform. In close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and our Euro-Atlantic partners, we will continue building a high-quality, competitive, and fully NATO- and EU-interoperable military education system." - he added.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s full support for continued reforms and the modernisation of military education, aimed at further strengthening the professional capabilities of the Albanian Armed Forces.
