Albania deploys first helicopter contingent to NATO’s KFOR Mission

Minister Nufi: “Our commitment to KFOR remains steadfast. We continue to fulfil our responsibilities in support of collective security.”

Albania’s first helicopter contingent is set to join NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) mission in Kosovo.

A departure ceremony was held at Farka Air Base for 13 Albanian Armed Forces personnel who will serve in the Alliance’s mission at the U.S. military base Camp Bondsteel. This marks an important milestone for the Albanian Air Force and represents a further expansion of Albania’s contribution to international operations.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Defence Ermal Nufi described the deployment as a testament to the professionalism of Albanian military personnel and to the responsibilities Albania fulfils as a committed NATO Ally.

“The contingent we are sending off today is part of this collective effort. It demonstrates that the Air Force is expanding its role and that our Armed Forces are further consolidating their capabilities to undertake increasingly important tasks within NATO.” Minister Nufi stated.

He further emphasised: “For Albania, this mission holds particular significance, not only because of our historical and fraternal ties with Kosovo, but also because Kosovo’s security and stability are directly linked to the peace and security of Albania and our wider region.”

“In this context, our commitment to KFOR remains steadfast. We are fully committed to continuing to fulfil our responsibilities with the utmost seriousness, in close cooperation with our Allies and partners, in support of collective security." Minister Nufi said.

The Minister also noted that Albania’s contribution to international security extends beyond KFOR, encompassing operations conducted under the auspices of NATO, the European Union and the United Nations.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji; Commander of the Albanian Air Force, Brigadier General Voci; other Armed Forces commanders and senior officials; and family members of the personnel deploying on the mission.
