Sazan Island opens for tourists during summer season

Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Enterprise signed today a cooperation agreement which allows tourists to visit Sazan Island. Defense Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli and Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Enterprise Mrs. Milva Ekonomi signed the agreement which aims to develop tourism and its promotion.

In her address, Minister of Economy thanked Minister Kodheli for her readiness to contribute in the growth of tourism, by opening the assets administered by the Ministry of Defense to the visitors. "I want to thank Mrs. Kodheli for this very positive step for tourism in Albania. Summer season is approaching and the travel agencies seek to have more tourism products for tourists and having access to Sazan Island has been a constant demand. The fact that we are allowing tourists, during their stay in our country, to spend some moments in Sazan Island is obviously a great relief for local tourism. One of the constant requests of tourists, was security, hence, I thank you very much for the special attention you paid to this issue by giving access to tourists to Sazan Island to use it as a tourist attraction” - said Minister Ekonomi.
On the other hand, Minster Kodheli considered tourism as a significant branch of Albanian economy and expressed her readiness to make the assets of Ministry of Defense in tourist areas available for tourists by stressing the need for their security. “Besides the fact that tourism plays a crucial role in our country’s GDP, undoubtedly, it should also reflect the state of security that tourists should have while visiting our country. Today the world, especially the Mediterranean Coast are troubled and worried due to all geo-political events in the region and many tourists nowadays do not prefer to visit places with a high risk. What we have to do is to provide security for our sea coast and every day we are working for such a thing. At the same time, as many military bases are located in places with natural beauty, like Albanian coast, we should make it possible for tourists to visit them, and this makes their stay much more attractive” - said Minister Kodheli.
This agreement makes it possible for tourists to visit Sazan Island, which is a property under the responsibility of Ministry of Defense.
Tourists are allowed to visit Sazan Island in summer season during the period May 1, 2017 until October 31, 2017. The agreement also establishes the schedule and areas that can be visited on this island.
