National Centre of Security and Defence (NCSD)

The National Center for Security and Defence (NCSD) is a supporting research institution of the Ministry of Defence and other state security institutions of the Republic of Albania. It is a ‘think tank’ nature organization, thinking ahead for shaping policies and positions related to key security and defence issues.  

Through various methods of study and research activities, NCSD goal is to think ahead of the reforms in the security and defence, formulation of regional initiatives and policies, promotion of technological developments, as well as integration issues of the Euro-Atlantic and European agenda. NCSD research products will help offer the best solutions and alternatives.

NCSD Organization

To fulfill the assigned mission and tasks, the NCSD is organized in four departments:

- Department of security and international relations (DSIR);
- Department of Defense Research (DDR);
- Department of Technological Research (DTR);
- Department of Cooperation and Publications (DCP).

History of the National Centre of Security and Defence

The National Security and Defence (NCSD) is established as a 'center of excellence' in the area of national security and defence. The development of such a research institution is an MoD priority in support of qualitative reforms in the area of national security and defence, the new situation of NATO membership, and efforts ahead for EU integration.

NCSD is a new "think tank" security and defence institution at the strategic level. Its mission is to support with advanced expertise the Ministry of Defence and all other security institutions (The President, The Prime Minister, The Security and Defence Committee, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Ministry of Interior, The State Information Service, etc.) for formulation of policies, positions, recommendations, and articulating alternative solutions to fundamental issues of security and defence.
