Albania takes over the Leadership of SEDM, Xhaçka: Doors open to a safer region

A few days after the officiating of the Albania's Leadership of the South East European Defense Ministerial (SEDM) , the first meeting of the Political-Military Steering Committee was held in Tirana, where the Defence Minister Ms. Olta Xhaçka took part.

In her speech in front of the high representatives of this Ministerial, Minister Xhaçka stressed the importance of expanding regional initiatives with new members.

“Open door policy will give new impetus to regional initiatives. Developments in the Western Balkan are a good indication of how this cooperation, with the involvement of NATO and the European Union, can affect the stability and building of modern and peaceful societies. ”

Defence Minister underlined the Albania's role in the Euro-Atlantic integration of the countries of the region, as a key factor in expanding the accession map for the Western Balkan countries and a strong voice for security and stability in these countries.

Alongside the SEDM, during 2019, Albania, through the Ministry of Defense, has taken over the lead of several important initiatives for the region, including the Ministerial of initiative USA - Adriatic Charter or otherwise known as the A - 5.
