Albania and Italy launched a new cooperation in the field of military health, after the ones had in modernization, international missions, and exercises. Under personal attention of the Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka and her Italian counterpart, Lorenzo Guerini, in the framework of bilateral cooperation between the two ministries, the Trauma University Hospital (Military Medical Unit) and Celio Military Hospital in Rome, signed a cooperation agreement which will improve medical procedures for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of servicemen at home as well as in international operations abroad.
The agreement was signed for the Albanian part by Brigadier General Prof. Assoc. Dr. Bajram Begaj, and for the Italian one by Inspector General Roberto Biselli.
This agreement will enable the medical personnel interchange for attending training and courses at the Italian Military Health Institutions (Celio Military Hospital, Rome) as well as to participate in scientific demonstrations organized from each of the two services and respective hospitals.
This agreement also has a significant impact on the exchange of scientific information on the latest developments in the medical sciences, the development of a telemedicine program including video conferencing and distance diagnostics as well as the exchange of scientific information for the organization of new hospital services in the field of advanced medical techniques and medical-military disciplines.
Teams from the two military health institutions will now be able to share general hospital management information, use of information technology and maintenance of medical equipment.
As two NATO member states, Albania and Italy have undertaken a number of joint initiatives that have increased the co-operation and capacity of the Armed Forces.
