Earthquake, Austria donates € 600,000 for reconstruction

The Republic of Austria will assist the Albanian Government in dealing with the earthquake consequences of November 26, 2019, making available € 600,000 for the reconstruction of destroyed or damaged dwellings.
The donation agreement was signed at the Ministry of Defense by Director of the National Civil Protection Agency Haki Çako and the Head of the Austrian Development Cooperation in Albania Simone Ungersböck.
Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka and the Head of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Tiranë, Christian Steiner also took part in this meeting. The agreement seeks to improve the life of the families affected by the earthquake by rebuilding or repairing their damaged homes.
Municipalities of Durrës and Tirana will benefit the most from this donation.
The implementing partner of this agreement is the Ministry of Defense through the National Civil Protection Agency, while the Austrian Development Cooperation will monitor the whole process of implementation of this project and will be constantly informed directly about its progress.
The project started on 01 December 2019 and will continue until 31 March 2021.
Austria was one of the first countries in the European Union that offered its support under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, providing after the earthquakes of 21 September and 26 November 2019, generators, blankets, portable beds and toiletries – sanitary equipment.
