Pupils and teachers of “Edit Durham” Elementary School joined Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka during a visit to Bubq and Mazhë e Madhe, one of the worst affected areas by the November 26 earthquake.
On their own initiative, the students had prepared gifts for 120 children, who expressed their wish to share them with their teachers during Minister Xhaçka's visit to the families sheltered in tents in this rural area.
After congratulating the students of "Edit Durham" school on the remarkable initiative in these festive days and the attention they are paying to the children of the affected families, Minister Xhaçka informed residents that the government and expert groups are working on a time record to complete as soon as possible the damage verification.
“It will start soon the most important phase of reconstruction in Durrës, Tirana and Lezhë. We will do our maximum to prioritize families with young children who cannot live in these conditions. I understand all the difficulties and we are working on time record for the rebuilding of the houses in order to start as soon as possible,” - said Minister Xhaçka during the conversation with the inhabitants of Bubq and Mazhës së Madhe.
According to the preliminary data, which are updated daily during the verification of Albanian and foreign experts in the field, around 15,000 buildings have been inspected in the affected areas, of which 2.300 dwellings are heavily damaged, while 292 buildings up to now are temporarily uninhabitable.
After the end of the second phase, damage verification, work will begin on massive reconstruction of damaged houses with the collaboration of construction companies to repair the buildings they have built and to build new neighborhoods and ecological dwellings (in areas rural) in Tirana, Durrës, Thumana, Kurbin and Laç to shelter residents whose homes were completely destroyed by the earthquake.
