Distribution of food packages starts from Thumana, Çako: Municipalities to identify families in need.

The distribution of first food packages to retired householders and families in need begins. The first ones were the Thumana residents, the most affected by the earthquake on November 26, 2019. Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka has been monitoring the distribution of packages on the terrain during Tuesday’s late hours.

Whereas, today the distribution of packages has continued in Shijak municipality and other surrounding areas, where many residents due to isolation from the Covid-19 pandemic are unable to provide daily supplies.

Director of the National Civil Protection Agency, Haki Çako, asked to the local government leaders for maximum cooperation in order to assist all those in extreme need in this emergency.

"Local government, under Civil Protection Law No. 45, has the absolute responsibility to identify, list, and distribute all humanitarian aid provided to their citizens in the event of a natural disaster or pandemic such as this one, Covid-19. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to call for a maximum commitment and predisposition on this issue, in order to be closer to all families with extreme needs", - Çako said.

Packages that contain mainly basic foodstuffs and detergents will continue to be distributed every day, according to lists prepared in advance by the local government.
