65th Anniversary of Kuçova Air Base establishment

65 years ago was established one of the greatest prides of Albanian Armed Forces
On May 15, 1955, the Aviation Regiment "23 Peza" was established, today known as Kuçova Air Base, which was the first unit of the Albanian Military Aviation to protect the airspace of the Republic of Albania.
The Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka has also recalled the anniversary of the establishment of this base, and published on Facebook the video realized in collaboration with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, SHAPE.
“Kuçova Air Base, on the 65th Anniversary of its creation, is closer than ever to recovery. I am proud that we managed to put this asset of our Armed Forces on the path of its transformation into a NATO base. It is the Alliance’s only base in the Western Balkans”, said Xhaçka.
NATO will spend over 51m Euros during the first phase of work to transform Kuçova Base into a support base for the Alliance in the region.
This 65-year marks the beginning of the work on the premises of the Kuçova Air Base which will be closely followed by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
