65 years Kuçova Air Base

65 years ago, was established one of the greatest pride of Albanian Armed Forces.

On May 15, 1955, was established the Aviation Regiment "23 Peza", today the Kuçova Air Base, which was the first unit of the Albanian Military Aviation to protect the airspace of the Republic of Albania.

Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka also recalled the Anniversary of the Base’s establishment and published a video on Facebook realized in cooperation with the Supreme Command of the Alliance Forces in Europe, SHAPE.

“Kuçova Air Base on the 65th Anniversary of its establishment is closer to its recuperation than ever. I am proud that we managed to put this asset of our Armed Forces on the irreversible path of its transformation into a NATO Base, even in the only base of the Alliance in the Western Balkans.” - writes Minister Xhaçka.”

NATO plans to invest 51million euros in transforming the Kucova Base into a tactical base of the Alliance in the region.

This 65-Anniversary finds the Kuçova Air Base on the eve of the start of fieldwork, which will be closely conducted with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
